This folly consists two short passages cut into a sandstone outcrop located in the Sussex Weald. It has two entrances, from which a tunnel leads to a room with a large brick lined vent in the ceiling,. Not much is known about the history of this underground feature but it is probable that is was a small sand mine.
I have had a number of requests for further information about the location of this folly. I visited a number of years ago, as part of a trip with the Kent Underground Research Group, and I am unable to remember the exact location. If anyone can pinpoint it for me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

To find these tunnels go down sham farm road in Eridge and take your 1st left at the folly. take the road all the way down to the fishing lake. On the other side of the lake on it's north side you will find the caves.
"Half the fun is in research and finidng places."
Or just looking on an Ordnance Survey map. The word "Caves" kinda gives it away.
Muppet!
I didn't know people still said 'spastic'! Bless your little retro-insult socks.
That's right these were the old Spastic Caves. Where they used to leave mentally retarded people in the 16th century so that they could run around licking moisture off the cave walls and eating moss and make as much noise as they like without offending those with greater sensibility.
Chill out blood. Sometimes it's good to help others who are new in the game and don't quite know how to go deep into the research and find these locations. Spastic.
Another great article posted. Thanks! | wescoopthepoopokc.com/
You have a nice output. Thanks https://www.centralalbertatowing.ca/
I used to play there as a child a d go swimming in the river. It was great fun. My Mum (god rest ger soul) once scared my big brother and his friend by doing ghostly noises down the vent after they boasted they would go in there without a torch because they wernt afraid. When they came out they were screaming like girls. It was so funny. That was the joy of living on the Eridge Estate and being ablevto go wherever you wanted.
